Music

Paul Trepte

Organist and Director of Music

Paul Trepte
Paul Trepte

Paul Trepte studied with Donald Hunt, Herbert Howells and Nicholas Danby. After an organ scholarship at New College, Oxford, he successively became Assistant Organist at Worcester Cathedral, Director of Music at St Mary's, Warwick and Director of Music at St Edmundsbury Cathedral.

In September 1990, he succeded Dr Arthur Wills as Organist and Director of Music at Ely Cathedral. Under his direction the choir maintains a busy schedule of services, concerts, recordings and tours - all to critical acclaim

He has conducted choirs in Leamington and Ipswich and has worked with the Aldeburgh Foundation's Britten-Pears Chamber Choir since its formation in 1991.

In addition to his main work as a choral/organ music specialist, he composes, lectures and examines (principally for The Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music) whenever he can find time. He has made many recordings and has a number of published and recorded choral works to his credit.

His prime passion is for choral conducting of any kind and the daily round of Cathedral worship remains his foremost pleasure and concern.
