A View of Ely Cathedral

A Message from the Chairman of the Music Guild...

"The significance of the Cathedral and its Choir extends far beyond the City. They are ambassadors - not just on the local stage - but regionally, nationally and internationally.

At a first glance the Cathedral looks unchanged and unchanging. However, a closer inspection soon reveals otherwise. Great changes have taken place. Sometimes these changes have been radical, such as the under-floor heating in the Lady Chapel; at other times change has taken place more slowly.

The process of change continues today, and is a real challenge. It is not something that I, or indeed the Campaign Committee can meet alone. This Campaign will succeed to the extent to which all those who have a love and regard for Ely Cathedral are involved.

The aim of the Campaign is to establish an endowment of £10 million that will secure the future of Ely's Music programme in the long-term - we estimate about ten years. To cover the considerable period needed for this endowment to build up, we plan to raise £2.5 million over the next five years.

Please do support this Campaign in whatever way you can. We have a wonderful oppurtunity not noly to secure the future of the existing Music programme but to extend and develop it to an ever wider constituency".

Sir David Harrison CBE FREng.
